Antique Gilded Frame

$ 75.00

An antique picture frame featuring relief work and a gilded finish. Made by the Newcomb-Macklin Co. Picture Frame Makers, NY. We know that it was manufactured in the 1930s at the absolute latest because it has a tag for an artwork that was once displayed in it- "Patterns in the Spanish Sun," which was "loaned through the courtesy of Rabun Studios- New York City," a weaving studio that was opened in the '30s by Mary Crovatt Hambidge and Eleanor Steele Reese. Their work is noted has having been displayed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and considering that Rabun Studios was in Georgia, not NY, there's a good chance that this frame was made to hang at the Met!
