Vintage Mahogany “Warfield” Dining Set

$ 595.00

Boy, howdy, do we have a real beaut for you today. This is a beautiful dining set featuring a Duncan Phyfe-style expandable table with six chairs to set around it. The table was manufactured by the Brandt Cabinet Works out of Hagersfield, Maryland, alongside the Watertown Table Slide Corporation out of Wisconsin, which operated outlets near Hagersfield under the name "Warfield," leading to the moniker given to this set. The table sports richly stained and lacquered mahogany that shines even without light on it, with five removable leaves that each extend the table's width by about 14"- plus the two drop-leaves on the side! As you open it up, the base also expands alongside it for stability. Thanks to the many maker's marks left on the multiple components of this table, we can estimate its construction to be from roughly 1937 (earliest patent for the 'Warfield' table slide) through the very early 1940s- the war, you see. It also comes with soft, velvety covers to protect that beautiful wood. The six chairs, meanwhile, feature elegantly carved oak construction, stained a light yet warm tone, with a cotton-upholstered seat with a pretty groovy stripe pattern to it. These, too, have maker's tags which give us their provenance: they were manufactured by the Bernhardt Furniture Company out of Lenoir, North Carolina, and were shipped to be sold at the Peoples Store, Co- a hometown local to Tacoma. These chairs even sold at the Peoples Store's flagship location at 11th and Pacific! All told, these pieces still being in such good condition and still all kept together is nothing short of a miracle, especially with so much accessible information about them! Dimensions listed refer to the table at its maximum extension. Without the leaves installed, it's roughly 54.5" or so inches wide.
