Each business has a different way to determine the swing and handing of the door. When in doubt, describe the way you determined the door swing to a customer service rep. Below is Second Use’s criteria for determining door swing and handing:
For swing…
1. Begin with the door shut
2. Push or pull it open
3. If it moves into the inside of a room or house, it’s an inswing door. If it moves into the outside of a room or house, it’s an outswing door
For handing…
1. Go to the push side of the door
2. From there, put your back to the hinges
3. Extend your arms
4. If the right hand is closer to the door knob, you have a right hand door, and vice versa
