LOCAL BUSINESSES USING SALVAGED MATERIALS IN CREATIVE WAYS

Just a few blocks away from Second Use in SoDo, you’ll find a great example of creative building material reuse and curated interior design. The Little Red Day Spa is located inside the Old Rainier Brewery and exudes a warmth and welcomeness befitting of the building’s history — thanks to a smart mix of materials that carry an equivalent history of their own.

Jeff Hengst, the spa’s owner, is also an artist and woodworker, and has been a Second Use customer for more than a decade. He has applied his strong artistic taste and woodworking skills to every part of his spa’s experience.

As you enter, you’re greeted with salvaged and refinished wood on his floors and counters, reclaimed beams support the ceilings throughout, and even the rustic wood and tiles on shower walls along with many sinks and tubs were sourced here at Second Use.

In addition to all of those beautiful projects making use of reclaimed and salvaged building materials, Jeff has curated some unique furniture and objects and decorated his space as well. Vintage dressers, steel lockers, a Chinese opium bed, high back velvet club chairs, a series of ottomans, pillows and velvet curtains. Through his artful eye, he has brought all these items together to create a unique decor that continues to evolve as he finds new ideas to implement.
